she tells us she’s tired

from volunteering

at the school down the street

for the kids

who are in from Angola this year,

“next year it’ll be somewhere else”.

she mentions the special purple Portland trash bags

& the family of skunks, or is it raccoons ?,

living next door

who raided the trash

& left it strewn across our driveway.

they left some beneath my car

which i need to turn around,

& most definitely get some Maine plates for
