been quite a trek over & under
all over myanmar & back
yangon
mandalay
hsipaw
pyin oo lwin
mandalay
bagan & back to
yangon

tea shops &
road houses &
curry houses
shaky
bridges in
between

buddhas
buddhas
buddhas

good conversation all the while
horse drawn carriage to boom-bap flower gardens
saloon style taxi cabs  though the ever jungle
some with open windows through the dust
red anglican churches
sikh temple luncheons
stupas & barefoot stone steps
red bricked ancient ruby washed payas
cows sheep goats & oxen
riverboats
longboats
daiquiris
swimming pools &
joy

we sat ‘round the table & laughed & smiled
wore longyis right down main street to the strand
all over burma & back again
planes boats & automobiles

put ya on one more plane back to
boston

good bye dad
good night to ya
glad you came
glad we got to spend some time
in country
glad for the rivers & the nat shrine trees

the ayeyarwady lost under afternoon haze
green rice paddies rising to meet the sun
glad you came half way ’round the world to hang with us

see ya back the other side

  1. I especially love this one. What great memories for father’s day. What a great trip I had, what a great present to spend three weeks with Erica and you. Thanks again both of you. Dad
