shitenno-ji temple
grab candles & incense at the gate

purify our hands with water
once, twice, three times

five story pagoda rises above the fray
all winged & flexing
full of red yellow green plummage

high above the temple walls
golden crown upon her head

climb the spiraling staircase
one up, one down

golden buddhas a hundred or more
encased along the way

from the top there are mountains
green ones blue ones black
trembling radio towers transmitting
across around between

tsutenkaku tower
awaits godzilla

osakan skyline spread below

across the way a wooden temple
fourteen hundred years old or more

bronze buddha
boddhisattvas

candles
flames
gold painted walls

a story unfolds
a monk sings out
chanting sutras in some foreign tongue

not japanese

a sutra
a psalm
a prayer

the words wind out
woodblock slows

then begins again
again

buddha smiles
ever so slightly
all secrets
are
revealed

nirvana
just barely
flashing
there she is
there she goes
& comes
& gone
